WTH Community Trust

Wem Town Hall Community Trust is a charity (no. 1113075) dedicated to providing facilities for the benefit of the inhabitants of the town of Wem and the surrounding area in relation to (i) the advancement of the education of the public in the arts (ii) the advancement of education and training generally and (iii) recreation or other leisure time occupation in the interest of social welfare with the object of improving the conditions of life for the public at large.

WTHCT delegates the day to day running of the organisation to a skilled staff team who report directly to the board of trustees.  The Trustees shape the direction and focus of the Charity in response to community consultations and priorities in keeping with the charitable aims above.

The trustees have a wide range of experience, expertise and interests, reflecting the diversity of the local community and supporting the organisation.  Within the trust there are working parties to maintain the high quality venue and services.  This includes the finance and personnel committee that meets monthly to monitor the performance and financial stability of the organisation, and the House Committee which supports the work to maintain such a large public facility.

John Dinsdale (Chair, Finance Committee) – John has recently moved into the area after retiring from a career in purchasing and logistics and now concentrates on  voluntary work within the local area.  John is also involved with Shropshire Council and Wem Economic Forum in the setting up of a local P3 group (Parish Paths Partnership).  This is a group set up to walk and maintain the local footpaths within the parish boundary. As a volunteer and Trustee of Wem Town Hall John is keen to involve local community groups, schools and business in the work of the Town Hall for the benefit of the community.

Roy Reeves (Treasurer to the Trust, Finance Committee) – Roy is a retired Chartered Accountant, having spent in excess of the last thirty years in practise advising small and medium sized businesses.  He has lived in Wem since 1981.  His financial expertise is greatly valued.

Peter Jones (Finance Committee) – Peter was a founder member of Wem Town Hall Community Trust.  Peter spent his working life in retail, where he progressed to the role of Managing Director of a business supplying local agricultural needs to the community, making many local contacts.

He devotes a substantial amount of time to Wem Town Hall volunteering and arranges Ballroom dances at the Town Hall which are well attended…..we have the best sprung dance floor in Shropshire ..!

Allan Brown (House Committee) –Allan has volunteered at Wem Town Hall for many years as a regular steward at Wem Town Hall events.  He is passionate about the arts, in particular live music and has a wealth of knowledge to share on world music programming at WTH.  In his professional career Allan is Construction Director and now sits on the WTH House Committee advising on building and maintenance programmes.

Liz Mayer – Liz has been involved from the very beginning when a steering group was formed to try to save Wem Town Hall for community use.  She is actively involved in fund raising, is a regular volunteer and provides the Trust with an abundance of local knowledge.

Sharon Angus-Crawshaw (Finance Committee) –  Sharon has been living in the centre of Wem since November 2020.  She has extensive voluntary experience across a wide range of organisations and has chaired many committees in her time.  She currently supports three other organisations and is delighted to be involved and to use her skills more locally with Wem Town Hall, which is a tremendous community facility.  Her professional background is in community engagement & development and financial inclusion, and she was a senior manager at Cheshire East Council before taking early retirement. She now works part-time for a county association supporting local councils.

Geoff Soul –  Geoff is Wem Town Council’s nominated Trustee on the Board. After retiring from his role of Deputy Head of a large secondary school he ran his own education management consultancy supporting schools primarily with finance, data management and timetabling. He is a Wem Town Councillor and Mayor for 2022-23. He works voluntarily as a driver for North Shropshire Wheelers and the Community Car scheme, travels extensively and spends as much time as possible with his family, including six grandchildren.
