Klara and the Sun follows Klara, an Artificial Friend with outstanding observational qualities, who watches from her place in the store the behaviour of those who come in to browse, and of those who pass on the street outside. She remains hopeful that a customer will soon choose her. When she is finally selected to be the companion to a sickly teenage girl named Josie, Klara must navigate the complexities of human emotion, loyalty, and sacrifice in a rapidly changing world.
