Wem History Day

Sunday June 18th, 2017 - 9.30am - 1pm

With funding now in place and research in progress The Victoria County History (VCH) of Shropshire in association with the Friends of Shropshire Archives are holding a Wem history day on Sunday 18th June from 9.30am – 1pm. Wem is steeped in history and the programme will offer an opportunity to learn more about the town, its people and its buildings.


9.30am Doors open and Registration at the Town Hall

10am Introduction, Professor Richard Hoyle (VCH Shropshire Chair)

10.15 ‘The missing Market Charter; Rewriting the History of Wem’, Judith Everard

10.45 ‘Understanding the Urban Landscape of Wem’, James Bowen

11.15 Tea and coffee

11.45 ‘”The thing was done which the parishioners since washed undone”; The Developmental History of Wem Parish Church’, Wendy Horton
