Visitor Information

Wem lies in the heart of North Shropshire and is an ancient town dating back to Saxon times. It has been a market town since 1202 and a market is still held in the town every Thursday.
Served by train and bus, Wem is filled with pretty Georgian buildings and delightful independent shops, cafes and pubs. With a children’s’ play park, the peaceful Millennium Gardens, the lively Wem Town Hall, the mysterious ‘Mythstories’ Museum of Myth & Fable, the Sports Centre and Swimming Pool all within reach of the centre, there is always something on offer.
Wem is also the home to the modern sweet pea, and hosts the annual Eckford Sweet Pea Show in July, whilst the annual Carnival on the first Saturday of September attracts crowds and performers from far and wide.
The town boasts two excellent schools, St Peter’s Primary and Thomas Adams Secondary with 6th form, both of which were awarded “outstanding” at their most recent Ofsted inspection.
