Shropshire Music Trust: Moussa Dembele

Let Moussa Dembele, multi-instrumentalist and master craftsman transport you to West Africa with his rich cultural and musical heritage. Born and raised in Burkina Faso meaning ‘land of honest men’ , Dembele has music running through his veins. Watch him perform with an array of instruments including the Balafon (african xylophone) Ngoni (african lute), Kora (african harp), Djembe (drum) and Doum Doum (bass drum). Over the years he has collaborated with many musicians from varying musical genres including jazz and pop as well as traditional and contemporary African music. Learn about his knowledge, skills and love of traditional African instruments.

Moussa will be joined by percussionist Seneke Sillah.  Seneke Sillah, based in London, is an exceptional percussionist from The Gambia. He plays the Sabar drum and has done so from a young age having performed mbalax – the traditional music of the Wolof people from the Gambia and Senegal – with cultural troupes in West Africa.  After training for years with master drummers, he is also a highly accomplished djembe player.  Seneke has performed with various world music bands, including appearances at WOMAD in the UK and Spain, the Walthamstow Garden Party, Tropical Pressure Festival and the Southbank Centre Africa Utopia Festival.
