This fearless 5-piece emphatically puts the ‘class’ into ‘unclassifiable‘ (The Scotsman)
Wem Town Hall is delighted to welcome back Moishe’s Bagel once more. It may have been 8 years since their last sell out concert with us but many will remember their thrillingly original cutting-edge klezmer and folk music that combines the energy and passion of world folk with the excitement and soul of improvisation.
Phil Alexander (piano), Greg Lawson (violin), Pete Garnett (accordion), Mario Caribé (bass) and Guy Nicolson (percussion) play an intoxicating, life-affirming mix of Eastern European dance music, Middle Eastern rhythms and virtuoso performances. For this concert the band will be joined by a very special guest, singer Fiona Hunter, one of Scotland’s foremost traditional singers. Having developed a particular enthusiasm for the songs of the Scottish Travellers, she has worked with members of the Perth-shire based Stewart family, learning her craft first-hand from the last tradition-bearers of this celebrated folksong dynasty.
Fiona and the Bagels have been working on a new project that pits her Scottish and Gaelic repertoire against their characteristically diverse world folk sound. Come and hear the results!
“Exhilarating, full-flavoured stuff, often breath-takingly intricate but played with jubilation … the Bagel acquires the momentum of an express train” – The Herald
